Thing #4

Students might enjoy blogging about the Bluebonnet books or other books that they like. A student book club could post thoughts about their current selection and/or respond to facilitator questions. Feedback about the library program could be gathered and responded to through a blog. If the blog catches on with students, their enthusiam may invoke the curiousity of teachers who might otherwise steer clear of new trends.

Thing #3

The email link to Library Services didn't work from this computer, but the email is sent and I expect to be "official" very soon!

Thing #2 - 7 1/2 Habits

For me, the easiest habit of the 7 1/2 is probably #7, teaching and mentoring others. I teach technology as well as other things on a daily basis. It has always been natural and easy for me to have a good repoire with students of all ages. However, a close 2nd is habit #2, which is "Accept responsibility for your own learning." Since one is rarely given time to learn new skills "on the clock" in the educational work place (this day being a huge exception), willingness to accept the fact that you need to be the best for your students and most of the preparation will be done on your own time and often your own initiative is very helpful to managing one's mental state!

The most difficult item for me is #7 1/2, or "playing." Now don't get me wrong, I love to play and this is the best staff development day I can remember, but generally speaking, there is no time for playing. I needed whatever skill I'm trying to master yesterday, and there is a feeling of continually swimming upstream as the current gets stronger.

First Thing

My goal is to cram as much techno knowledge into my brain as possible, and then impress my students, colleagues, and husband by doing cool things with my newly acquired skills. Teaching technology is probably my favorite part of my job. It would be great to have a Beasley Library Blog, but I don't know how to make that happen around the filter. Perhaps I'll soon learn whether or not it's feasible. I'm sure students would think it was great fun to create their own Podcasts promoting books they like, so I'm looking forward to using that technology also.

I must say, this process seems a bit random to me, a very sequential person. I lost the blog website in the middle of choosing a template. Because the blog already existed at that point, I couldn't use the back button, which left me a bit lost in cyber world. In addition, the Avatar Yahoo site suddenly went down. Although I technically exist in cyberspace, I fear I'm not dressed for the task, and I'm having identity issues.
